Composition: imaginary autolysosome

Description:

Composition: imaginary autolysosome

The painting shows an artistic interpretation of an idealized, chimerical autolysosome. Different selective autophagic processes were summarized in the same vesicle, with elements coming from virophagy (red viral particles), mitophagy (light-blue mitochondria), lipophagy (yellow lipid droplets), and ER-phagy (pink Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) membranes). General, non-selective autophagy is also represented here through the green structures, showing a pop art-inspired “organic matrix” texture.

This painting was used as the cover image for Volume 16, Issue 12 of Autophagy Journal.
